After 3:00pm PDS Inspiration
There are many moments of inspiration that happen throughout the school day, but the inspiration does not stop at 3:00pm. Extended Day provides stimulating after school activities for TK through 5th grade students. One aspect of Extended Day that inspires me is the way that the students connect with the Character Education Program. This year our Extended Day Character Education theme is the “Good Character Tree.” It is wonderful to watch the older students at Extended Day become positive role models for the younger students. At the start of snack, 5th grade students lead the group in saying our Character Credo: “Rooted in Character, Visible in Actions, Growing as Leaders.” When an Extended Day teacher catches a student showing good character that student receives a sticker that states “Ask me how I showed good character at Extended Day.” This sticker allows students to write their name and the date on a leaf- and then add their leaf to our Positive Character Tree. I feel inspired watching the students show good character, which helps to grow our Positive Character Tree. It is a visual representation of how each of us plays a role in helping to grow a culture of kindness and respect at Extended Day and beyond.
